Repo! The Genetic Opera movie trailer
Repo! the Genetic Opera is a Victorian Gothic tale of tragedy, greed, corruption and revenge, given the structure of a classical Italian opera and then set in a grim near-future worthy of Blade Runner. The story revolves around three interconnected characters: Shilo Wallace (Alexa Vega), a teenage girl confined to her room due to a blood disease, whose abrupt exposure to the outside world mirrors the
audience's introduction to the setting; Nathan Wallace (Anthony Head), Shilo's guilt-ridden father, a doctor who secretly works as an organ-collecting "repo man"; and Rotti Largo (Paul Sorvino), the dying head of the all-powerful medical company GeneCo, who is tormented with his impending death and the incompetence of his three children and

In the world of Repo, widespread organ failure plagued human society until GeneCo arrived to provide the salvation of financed organ transplants. However, even as GeneCo saved humanity from immediate destruction, it laid the seeds for a new horror. GeneCo retained the right to repossess organs that were defaulted on, paving the way for
legal murder by GeneCo-employed "repo men." Meanwhile, the introduction of an addictive surgical painkiller and massive advertising propaganda ensured that people would continue to receive surgeries, even those they did not need or could not afford. The world that GeneCo controls is one built on human misery. It is into this world that Shilo and the audience are flung.

However, Repo! the Genetic Opera is not a simple dystopian horror film. In fact, it is a classical tragic opera, complete with moral complications, a tormented protagonist (Nathan, who is horrified at the countless murders he is forced to commit for GeneCo), a desperate despot (Rotti, who fears the impending downfall of everything he has built), an chorus of vice-ridden "fools" (the three Largo children, who as personifications of over the top sin serve as a twisted comic relief), and an innocent who may yet hold the key to some sort of final resolution (Shilo). The audience is even drawn into the story by narrator figure, the charming and ghoulish GraveRobber (Terrance Zdunich). Most startling of all, the entire piece is sung as a legitimate modern opera, with incredible voice talent and excellent music; it even includes the singing talent of Sarah Brightman (as opera singer Blind Mag), a guitar solo by Joan Jett and many more.
( And addicted to the knife, she needs a little help with the agony.Collapse )
( And a little help comes in a little glass vial in a gun pressed against her anatomyCollapse )
Repo! the Genetic Opera is a dark satire and commentary on modern society, subtly remarking upon the overwhelming power and corruption of major corporations, our obsession with appearances and cosmetic surgery, problems of drug addition and spiraling personal debt, and the manner in which the public is distracted from real social problems through the use of media control and insipid pop culture entertainment.

Repo is truly a unique film, and one that will inevitably become the
next great cult classic.
